Cool Decorative Ideas for your Thanksgiving Holiday

Posted by admin

Thanksgiving is always about the dinner table gatherings with family and loved ones. It is nice to create a nice cozy table spread for your guests coming to dine at your home. Start with some gourds and pumpkins which are a natural, beautiful way to decorate your Thanksgiving table. You can simply carve a large artificial pumpkin and fill it with small colorful gourds, and this would make a simple, pretty centerpiece. Or, take six or so real gourds or small pumpkins, hollow them, add a tea light to each and place them on a narrow rectangular mirror in the center of your table with a pair of candles on either side.  Or create a simple and fun cornucopia. This is the easiest and most traditional Thanksgiving centerpiece decoration. From a craft store, purchase a simple cornucopia basket; its curved cone shape is iconic of Thanksgiving- the symbol for a bountiful harvest. You can use real fruits and gourds - or, while you’re at the craft store, purchase silk or sugared plastic fruits and gourds - you’ll be able to use them year after year.

Simply place the cornucopia basket at the center of your table, and fill it to overflowing with your gourds and fruits. Add candles on each side to illuminate your harvest! Or you can put a tray filled with bright red cranberries topped with little votive candles. It’s best to put the cranberries on a plastic or metal tray, as cranberries contain moisture that can damage wood. Another really simple Thanksgiving decorations idea, yet very beautiful, is to take all kinds of candlesticks (different heights), and place a small fruit upon each candlestick (a pear, a small apple, a small pomegranate etc.). You can use large autumn leaves as coasters for cups. Oak leaves can be great for this as they are tough and durable. Another idea is to use miniature pumpkins as place cards – write each name with a permanent marker on each pumpkin. Napkins can be rolled up and tied with raffia; you can then tuck in a fallen leaf, cinnamon stick or acorn. Place cards are always fun to have, especially if you have certain sitting preferences. You can take small Indian corn, put in the middle of each plate, and attach a small note with raffia around the corn. You can also check out our Thanksgiving printable section to print out free napkin holders and place cards. Enjoy your gorgeous and warm Holiday!
